Homemade Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning

Homemade taco seasoning is a delicious and simple seasoning mix to make yourself at home! Once I learned to make this, I kicked myself for not learning how to do it and start saving myself money much sooner.

The first time I made this homemade taco seasoning blend, my husband, Nathan, was helping me to reach all of the spices in the pantry. The first question out of him when he sampled it was wanting to know how soon we were making tacos. That is one of his favorite foods. Which I’ll admit, tacos are easily one of my favorite foods as well.

I love making tacos to go along with my chicken tortilla soup. Nathan inhales both, and that is quite the compliment!

Have you tried making homemade taco seasoning yet? Come on in and let me tell you about it! Then you’ll also wonder why you never made it sooner. I know I did!

Homemade Taco Seasoning Directions

In a mixing bowl, combine all the spices and mix well.

Store in an airtight container. My favorite is a mason jar for this purpose. Then store in a cool dark place until you are ready to use it.

Recipe Notes

If you want an extra spicy recipe, add in some cayenne to the mix.

If you need a low-sodium version, simply cut the amount of salt or simply omit it. There is still plenty of flavor in this recipe.

Use as much or as little as you like. It all depends on your preferences!

This recipe is easy to double or triple, so you always have some on hand. Or you can make it in small, single-use batches as well. It is totally up to you.

This recipe is also vegan. One of my closest friends is vegan, and I am always excited to share my recipes that are naturally vegan and don’t require any manipulation to make them so.

Why I Love This Recipe

One of my favorite aspects of being a prepper and a homemaker is learning to do things myself instead of just tossing money at someone else to do it for me. This not only makes me feel like a better prepper, but a better wife as well, and that is a confidence booster.

Why buy expensive packets or blends in the store? If you have even a decently stocked pantry, you can make this simple mix yourself in mere minutes. All that buying it in the store is doing is buying an excess of something you already have, and paying someone else to blend it together for you.

Having this homemade spice mix also ensures that I never run out in the middle of making dinner. That is easily one of my biggest annoyances and pet peeves. Because it is such a waste of my time and energy to stop what I’m doing and run to the store, or figure out a substitution on the fly. I learned how to make my own baking powder for this exact reason.

Every single spice used in this blend are things I have stocked in my pantry. So to buy a commercially made seasoning is a total waste of money. That’s exactly why I keep a well stocked pantry.

This homemade taco seasoning also makes a great gift. I often make pumpkin pie spice and onion soup mix for the holidays and decorate a mason jar with a nice label and ribbon, and attach a recipe card to it and give as a gift. This is a fun gift, and a useful one as well. It is perfect for the one recipient that is always impossible to shop for, and I know everyone has at least one of those on their shopping list every year.

I am super jealous that you’re living in Mexico now, just because of the food. Lol. That would be one really big reason that I would want to spend time there, and learn from the people there about how to make authentic recipes.
