Everything Bagel Seasoning
Everything Bagel Seasoning is my latest condiment that I’ve learned how to make myself. Being a prepper and a homemaker, I love learning to make things myself instead of buying them in the store, especially when I already have the ingredients in my pantry.

What inspired me to make this was my everything bagel baked chicken recipe. It took several weeks to find the seasoning just for this chicken recipe. My husband, Nathan, went to several stores, and we even checked Amazon and they were out. I was excited when I finally found it in stock again.
But that begged the question, why can’t I make it myself? It is just dried spices mixed together, and shouldn’t be difficult. It really is easy to make, and then have it on hand to create amazing dishes like my baked chicken recipe.
Being able to make my own also means that I’m not going to run out in the middle of making a recipe, which is a serious pet peeve of mine because it is such a waste of time, gas, and money to make an emergency run to the store just to finish up a recipe.
I’ve had that happen with baking powder on more than one occasion, until I learned to make it myself. Saving myself trips to the store is just one more way of saving money for me.
Everything Bagel Seasoning Ingredients
White sesame seeds, ½ cup
Black sesame seeds, ½ cup
Fennel Seeds, 1 tablespoon
Poppy seeds, ¾ cup
Sea salt flakes, 3 tablespoons
Minced onion, ¼ cup
Minced Garlic, ¼ cup
Everything Bagel Seasoning Directions
Measure out each ingredient into a mixing bowl, then using a spatula, gently mix until everything is well-combined.
That’s it! Anybody can do that, no matter their level of culinary expertise.
Store in either a reusable bulk spice container, or a mason jar for when you’re ready to use. If it has been sitting for a while, give the container a nice shake before using, as some of the spices, like the poppy seeds, will settle in the bottom of the container. A simple shake of the container will redistribute everything evenly so it is ready to use.
Everything Bagel Seasoning Notes
This is an excellent kid-friendly recipe! If you have little ones that want to help in the kitchen and are interested in learning. Teaching them simple scratch-made recipes is something they’ll love, and it will help teach them how to measure things out and mix it up. It is great for littles just starting out wanting to help mom or dad in the kitchen.
If you don’t have black sesame seeds, don’t worry. You can simply double the white sesame seeds to 1 cup and do just fine. I like the black ones because they have a nuttier and earthier taste to them because they still have the hulls left on, and the white sesame seeds have the hulls removed. It is my preference to put a mix into this seasoning, but it’s not an issue to work with what you have at home either.
Why I Love This Recipe
I love this everything bagel seasoning mix recipe because it is easy. It is also cheaper to make it myself because I have all the ingredients at home. Nathan even commented that he could buy bagels at the grocery store and bring them home to add this seasoning to instead of going to an expensive bagel shop. I love when he is excited that I’m saving money!
The everything bagel seasoning can also be used as a texture element on mashed potatoes. Sprinkle some on cream cheese for veggies like celery. It would also be a wonderful topping on roasted cauliflower soup. My favorite so far is a topping for cottage cheese, right along with some really coarse ground black pepper.
Save bulk containers!
I buy all of my spices in bulk size because it keeps my pantry organized, and these containers are also reusable. I store my homemade onion soup mix in a bulk container that previously had garlic salt in it.
It is vegan!
This recipe is naturally a vegan recipe. Nathan and I have a good friend who is vegan, and I am a serious stickler about making dinners with ingredients that are naturally vegan and not processed. So needless to say, I am always excited to find naturally vegan recipes that I can share with him.
This is a recipe that I can share with this friend and I know he will love being able to make a naturally vegan spice mix for himself and his family. It also means we have a tasty topping or addition to my recipes for when we invite him to dinner as well.

I LOVE when you do a vegan recipe! I used to work at TIm Horton’s as a teen (Canada’s most frequented coffee shop) and the Everything Bagels would sell out like crazy! This is a great option to do at home – and the seasoning defintely isn’t just for bagels!

Thanks, Morgan! I’m always excited when I find recipes that are naturally vegan and don’t require any manipulation.

Yum, I love everything seasoning! I like it on my bagels, but I also like taking mini sweet peppers and adding cream cheese + everything seasoning to them as a nice light snack.

I will give the sweet peppers, cream cheese, and bagel seasoning a try, Luna! That sounds delicious and a really simple snack.

I would sprinkle this on avocado toast or cottage cheese.

Cottage cheese is one of my favorite things to use this everything bagel seasoning on as well!
