Easy Delicious Sweet Chili Chicken
Easy Delicious Sweet Chili Chicken is the latest chicken recipe to make it into my meal rotation. It is so easy to make at home, you can even make the sauce from scratch if you want to.
My husband raves about this recipe, calling it one of his top five favorite chicken recipes that I’ve developed over my time as a blogger. Which says something, in my opinion.

Easy Delicious Sweet Chili Chicken Ingredients
Chicken breast or tenders, 1 pound
Vegetable Oil, 1 tablespoon, you can also use olive oil if desired
Minced Garlic, 1 tablespoon, or paste
Sweet Chili Sauce, 4 tablespoons, make your own with this recipe
Lime Juice, 1 teaspoon
Garnish
Parsley or Cilantro
Frying Batter
Egg white, 1
Flour, ½ cup
Cornstarch, ¼ cup
Baking Powder, ½ teaspoon, make your own with this recipe
Water, ½ cup, ice cold
Vegetable Oil, 1 tablespoon
Salt, to taste
Vegetable Oil, for frying
Easy Delicious Sweet Chili Chicken Directions
In a mixing bowl, mix all of the ingredients for the batter together. This is the egg white, flour, cornstarch, baking powder, water, oil, and salt. Mix until well combined, without over-mixing it. If you have lumps, it is just fine.
Heat up a frying pan over medium-high heat with vegetable oil for frying the chicken.
In another mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients for the sauce. The sweet chili sauce, the garlic, and lime juice.
Dip the chicken in the batter, and then fry it until it is cooked through and the batter is golden brown. You only need to flip the chicken once, but do make sure that the batter isn’t sticking to the bottom of the frying pan. I like to just briefly lift mine up once or twice on each side.
Once the chicken is cooked, transfer to a platter lined with paper towels to soak up the excess oil.
After that, transfer the chicken to the mixing bowl with the sauce and stir or shake to coat it well with the sauce.
Garnish with sesame seeds and parsley or cilantro, and serve.

Recipe Notes
THe cornstarch and baking powder are what help to give this chicken the crispy batter on the outside, which is essential for a great chicken dish like this, in my opinion. It reminds me a lot of my hot honey chicken, with the crispy exterior and delicious sauce.
Use ice cold water for the batter, because that is what helps ensure the outside is super crispy and crunchy as well. Room temperature water just doesn’t do it, and it can come out soggy. If you don’t keep ice in the freezer normally, just refrigerate some water overnight, and then toss it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes prior to making the batter, to ensure it is really cold.
Before deep frying, make sure that the oil is hot enough to prevent the chicken from becoming greasy. One of the easiest ways to tell if the oil isn’t hot enough is greasy batter. I’ll confess and tell you that I judge restaurants on this factor, if my food is a grease bomb because the oil wasn’t hot enough.
You may need to fry the chicken in batches, to keep from overcrowding the pan. Mine took three batches total, and I did a small test piece first, just to make sure the oil was hot enough. If you overcrowd the frying pan, it drops the oil temperature too far, and you won’t get the super crispy batter you want. It also means that the chicken pieces can easily stick together, making them harder to flip, and breaking the batter when you separate them.
You can add red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce if you want it hotter.
You can also quickly saute some vegetables like bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms, if you want to make it a more complete meal for the family. The vegetables also stretch the recipe, if you are on a budget, and still make it feel really filling, and served with rice.

Why I Love This Recipe
My husband is still raving about this recipe. He claims this is in the top five percent best of all my chicken recipes, and is clearly a contender for his favorite. Which basically means I have to make it more often for him.
But the beauty of this Easy Delicious Sweet Chili Chicken recipe is the fact I can make it at home for him whenever he wants it. I don’t have to go out to a restaurant to get it. The fact I can make something like this at home from scratch makes me feel good, and makes the prepper and homemaker in me very, very happy.
This is a recipe that when first decided I wanted to try, it seemed really daunting and complicated. Like, maybe I should leave this one to the restaurants who know what they are doing. But the beauty of it is the fact it is so much easier than you think! It is a really great beginner-friendly recipe that anyone can make at home.
THe dish is not super spicy. It is a nice balance of sweet, heat, and acid. If you want to make it hotter, you can certainly garnish it with fresh red pepper flakes for an added kick of spice.
