Easy 7 Ingredient Irish Soda Bread
Easy 7 Ingredient Irish Soda Bread is the latest bread recipe to be crossed off my list. I have found that I have a small obsession with baking bread, because it is fun, and so much easier than I expected it to be.
My husband loves it when I bake bread and try out new recipes. I have found that I really enjoy it as well. Being able to touch and feel something as it comes together from my own hands. It is relaxing to me.

With this recipe, I love adding a little butter and honey to this bread once it is out of the oven. It tastes simply amazing and delicious. You could also add jam or preserves made from your favorite fruit and it would also be really tasty.

Easy 7 Ingredient Irish Soda Bread Ingredients
Buttermilk, 1 ¾ cups
Egg, 1 large
Flour, 4 ¼ cups
Sugar, 3 tablespoons
Baking Soda, 1 teaspoon
Salt, 1 teaspoon
Butter, 5 tablespoons
Raisins, 1 cup, optional.
Easy 7 Ingredient Irish Soda Bread Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Put the buttermilk in the freezer, until it gets a slightly slushy consistency. You don’t want it frozen, just chilled.
Melt the butter and allow it to cool slightly, but not solidify. Set aside.
Layer a baking pan or cake pan with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, add in all the dry ingredients.
Once the butter is melted and the buttermilk chilled, combine them. When you pour the melted butter into the buttermilk, it will cause it to solidify again, because the buttermilk is slightly frozen. Stir it until it looks something like weird cottage cheese, think in terms of texture and consistency. What this does is help incorporate the butter evenly into the dough. I do it with biscuits as well, and it makes things easier.
Then add this and the egg into the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth. If you are using raisins, gently fold them in now.
Knead until it is no longer sticky, which should only take a minute or two. It doesn’t need much kneading.
Spread the dough into the pan with the parchment paper you set aside earlier.
Bake for 45 minutes.
Transfer the bread to a cooling rack and allow it to cool before slicing and serving.
Enjoy this amazing Irish Soda Bread! I like to add butter and honey to mine when it is fresh out of the oven.
Recipe Notes
Raisins are totally optional in this recipe. I’m not a fan, so I skip them. If you enjoy them, feel free to add them in. It is all up to you!
You can freeze it. Let it cool completely, wrap in plastic wrap and foil, then place in a freezer bag and freeze for up to three months. Thaw at room temperature overnight when you are ready to consume it.
Why I Love This Recipe
This recipe is for anyone of any skill level, especially beginners. It is great for that. It can be made in any kind of pan. The only kind of pan I discourage is a loaf pan, as I’ve tried that and I could not get it done in the middle.
I baked it in a square cake pan, round cake pan, and a cast iron skillet. The next one I’m going to try is a scone pan, so I can have individual pieces. But the point is, it doesn’t require anything special or specific to make it, and I appreciate the simplicity of that.
This recipe does not require yeast, so there is no proofing time either, speeding up the entire process. You put the ingredients together and it is ready for the oven immediately.
