Pretzel Crusted Chicken
Pretzel crusted chicken is my latest and greatest recipe. This one was a serious hit with my husband, Nathan. He loved the crunchy salty factor in this recipe.

I added cheese on top and it became another crispy and delicious texture element in this chicken recipe. Adding cheese is always a guaranteed way to get my husband to eat a new meal.
Who doesn’t like pretzels, cheese, and mustard? It is a delicious and winning combination! It is simply delicious! I think you’ll enjoy this recipe just as much as I do.
Pretzel Crusted Chicken Ingredients
Chicken breast, cut into tender-sized pieces make sure the chicken pieces are all the same size to ensure they cook evenly and at the same time.
Pretzels, 2 cups, crushed
Panko bread crumbs, 1 cup
Cheddar cheese, ½ cup
Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon
Eggs, 2 beaten
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
Garlic powder, to taste, I use roughly a teaspoon, but don’t measure
Pretzel Crusted Chicken Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Using a food processor, grind the pretzels until they are a breadcrumb texture.
In a mixing bowl, mix the pretzels, panko, and spices together.
In another mixing bowl, mix the dijon mustard and eggs together, mixing until well-combined and look like a sauce.
Start dredging the chicken in the egg and mustard mix, then coat the chicken with the pretzel mix. Make sure they are well coated, as well as evenly coated. Shake off any excess, if needed.
Sprinkle the chicken with cheddar cheese.
Put the chicken on a baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees, read by a meat thermometer.
Recipe Notes
I served this pretzel crusted chicken with my homemade ranch dressing and it was amazing.
The mustard is essential in this recipe because mustard is a natural tenderizer, ensuring the chicken will not come out dry. If you are not a fan of dijon, you could certainly use a whole grain mustard in place of the dijon.
Pretzel crusted chicken is a really kid-friendly recipe. They can even help. If you have a little one who wants to help out, put the pretzels in a bag and let your munchkin crush the pretzels with their fist. It’s fun, easy, and allows them to be part of the process of making dinner with you. That is a total win-win, in my opinion.
Why I Love This Recipe
There are few things I enjoy more than good old fashioned crispy crunchy chicken! Finding new ideas for the breading just means more variety and enjoyment. That is the fun part for me because variety really is the spice of life, and I don’t think something as delicious as chicken should ever be boring!
This pretzel crusted chicken is an easy recipe. You don’t have to be Betty Crocker to be able to make simple and delicious homemade meals on a busy weekend, and this is a perfect example of that.
I am also a huge fan of how quickly this recipe comes together. There are plenty of days when I am tired and standing in the kitchen for an hour to prepare dinner is simply not at the top of my to-do list. There always seems to be other things demanding my attention. The simple meals can make a big difference!
Nathan also works two jobs, and with just a couple of hours in between the two, this is a quick meal I can throw together for him in between when he comes home and needs to leave again. Our time together is limited, but I love making him a home cooked meal. This recipe ensures I can do that without having to sacrifice my time with him, and that means everything to me.

It is a spin off my parmesan dijon chicken and hot honey chicken. I’m always looking for new and interesting ways to create a delicious breading on chicken, just for some variety. Why not take something ordinary like pretzels and create something new and fun with it?
