Easy 9 Ingredient Crispy Jalapeño Chicken has very quickly become part of my normal meal rotation. My husband raves about this one and tells me that I can make it anytime I want to. Which is always a sure sign that he likes it.
The chicken is perfectly crispy, while having a delicious sauce added to it, and is the perfect combination of balance. It is sweet and spicy, with a hint of salty depth.

Easy 9 Ingredient Crispy Jalapeño Chicken Ingredients
Chicken Breast, 2 pounds, cut into tender-size pieces, or bite size
Cornstarch, ¼ cup
Salt and Pepper, to taste
Lime Juice, 1 teaspoon
Soy Sauce, ¼ cup
Water, ¼ cup
Brown Sugar, ¼ cup, make your own with this recipe
Garlic Paste, 2 teaspoons or 4 cloves minced
Jalapeños, 2, sliced thin
Vegetable Oil, for frying
Easy 9 Ingredient Crispy Jalapeño Chicken Directions
Place the chicken in a mixing bowl and add salt and pepper.
Add in the cornstarch and toss to coat the chicken. Make sure each piece is well-coated in it.
In another mixing bowl, add in the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, and garlic. Whisk to mix and combine. Slice the jalapeño and add them into the sauce.
In a large heavy-bottom pan, add in the vegetable oil and heat over medium-high heat. I turn my stove dial to the middle of 7 and 8.
Once the oil is hot, add the chicken into the pan to fry. Do not overcrowd the pan, work in batches if necessary. Fry the chicken until golden brown and crispy, and the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees and is safe to consume.
In a small saucepan, add in the second mixing bowl that contains the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, garlic, and jalapeños. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it gently simmer as the water evaporates and the sauce starts to thicken.
Once that is done, toss the chicken into the sauce, and coat it well. The crispy exterior will absorb all of that delicious flavor.
Garnish with sesame seeds, and more fresh jalapeños, if desired, and serve.
Recipe Notes
You can serve this as-is, as a bite size snack, which is perfect for game days. Just stick a toothpick in each piece and plate it. Or you can make a full meal out of it with rice and stir-fried vegetables. I love to quick-fry in a pan onions, mushrooms, red bell peppers, and zucchini.
If you’re looking for a simple lunch, add this chicken with some coleslaw into a flour tortilla and eat it like a taco or wrap, and keep right on going with your day.
You can remove the seeds and ribs from the jalapeños, for a less spicy sauce, if desired. If you want it hotter, add in a pinch, or more, of red pepper flakes into the sauce.
You can also add an extra teaspoon of lime juice to make it a little more acidic, if desired. This will also make the spice level more pronounced.
You can also use chicken thighs if you would like. If doing so, either buy boneless chicken thighs, or remove the bone yourself. You will be able to see there are thinner sections where the bone has been removed. Slice the thigh meat in those sections, and it should give you three pieces of meat from each thigh. Also keep in mind that dark meat will mean a different cooking time. Just make sure it has reached a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees internally, measured with a meat thermometer.
If you are not a fan of frying chicken, you can use an air fryer. Prepare the chicken as I directed, then spray with Pam. Cook for 6 minutes at 400 degrees. Flip, spray, and cook another 6 minutes at 400 degrees, and finish with 1 minute under the air broiler. The important thing is that the chicken reaches 165 degrees internal temperature, making it safe to consume.
Why I Love This Recipe
This is such an easy recipe to make at any time, and is versatile. It is great for game day parties, lunch, or dinner. I love versatile recipes that can be dressed up or down to accommodate what I am doing, without a lot of extra effort.
As I said earlier, my husband raves about this recipe and simply loves it. Which makes my homemaker heart very happy, to give him a meal that he absolutely loves and craves.
This is a recipe that anyone of any skill level can make. You really don’t need any special kitchen equipment or anything fancy. Just fry some chicken and make sure it is cooked properly, and make a sauce. That’s it. It really is just that simple, and anyone can do that.
