Easy 3 Ingredient Baked Italian Chicken Ingredients
Chicken breast, 4, boneless, skinless, and fat trimmed
Brown Sugar, ½ cup if you don’t have brown sugar, you can make your own here.
Italian Dressing Mix, 2 packets, 0.7 ounces each
Easy 3 Ingredient Baked Italian Chicken Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Line a baking dish with aluminum foil.
In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar and Italian dressing mix, and whisk until well-combined. Coat both sides of the chicken with the brown sugar mixture.
Place in the baking dish and top with any remaining brown sugar mixture.
Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees, measured by a meat thermometer, basting with the sauce every 10 minutes.
Once the chicken is cooked through, baste one more time, and then turn the oven on to the broil setting. Broil the chicken for just a couple of minutes, until the brown sugar caramelizes on top and creates a delicious crusty glaze on it. This will only take a couple of minutes, so you’ll want to keep an eye on it to prevent it from burning.
Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes and then serve!
Recipe Notes
You can use any cut of chicken that you choose. I picked chicken breast for mine, but tenders and thighs work really well too. Just keep in mind that the cooking time will need to be adjusted for both. Tenders cook very quickly, where bone-in thighs take longer. Be sure that your chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees so that it is safe to consume.
Do not make the actual dressing when you open them up. You’re only using the packet as a seasoning mix in this recipe.
I would recommend lining your baking dish with foil to make cleanup much easier. The brown sugar will become very sticky, and that can become very difficult to clean up.
If desired, you can add other spices to the dish, such as:
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Paprika
- Oregano
- Parsley
I recommend basting the chicken with the sauce as it cooks. I chose to do so every ten minutes, and used a large spoon to baste the sauce over the chicken. Once it is done cooking, I turn the oven on to broil and then watch it to start browning. This only takes a couple of minutes, so you’ll want to watch it carefully so it doesn’t burn. I really liked the caramelized glaze that this creates on top of the chicken, adding another depth of flavor and texture to it.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Although I will be surprised if you have leftovers, because I certainly didn’t! This recipe was gobbled up in one sitting, and I was told that I should have made more.
I served this chicken with a salad, mashed potatoes, and oven roasted carrots. It was very simple and delicious.
Why I Love This Recipe
The combination of sweetness from the brown sugar and tang from the Italian dressing creates the perfect combination of flavor you will crave and want seconds of. Plus the brown sugar caramelizes on the top of the chicken to create a tasty glaze.
This recipe cooks in one baking dish and it is done in just 30 minutes. That is perfect for any busy weeknight when you have other things that need your time and attention besides dinner.
This is a great dish that kids can make with you because it is so simple. Let them mix the brown sugar and Italian dressing mix, and then coat the chicken. It will allow for your little ones to get involved and create wonderful memories in the kitchen with you.
