About The Cooking Wife
About The Cooking Wife Introduction
About The Cooking Wife. Welcome to my blog, The Cooking Wife! I’m glad you stopped by to visit, and I appreciate each and every one of you. There are plenty of blogs in the world, and I’m honored you chose to visit and spend some time in mine.
About The Cooking Wife
My name is Erica, and I am the face behind The Cooking Wife. About The Cooking Wife… I adore this blog and being able to share amazing, simple, fun, and timeless recipes with you.
I love breaking down recipes that seem complicated into something everyone can understand and do, no matter what your cooking skill level is. You don’t need to be a professional chef (unless you want to be) to make delicious and nutritious food at home and feed your family.
I always advocate making food from scratch instead of buying a commercially made product in the grocery store. It is often so much easier than you think, and you can customize it to fit your personal taste.
You can often find me in the kitchen with my husband, trying out new recipes and testing them out, or making some of our favorites.
My Blogs
I started The Cooking Wife as a spinoff of The Prepping Wife, my original blog. I currently run four blogs total, The Cooking Wife, The Prepping Wife, as well as The Homemaking Wife, and The Reading Wife.
Each of these started at The Prepping Wife, but I found they were growing much bigger and needed their own individual identity to continue growing and evolving into something amazing. That is where The Cooking Wife was born.
How I Started
I started cooking when I married my husband, Nathan, in 2008. I’ll be honest with you, I wasn’t terribly good at it originally. I grew up in a household that specialized in what I call “can to table” cooking. Meaning everything came out of a can or a box, and I hated it. That wasn’t my style, and I was determined to do so much more, and it really was easier than I understood.
Once I married Nathan, I wanted to be the best wife I could be, and being able to cook was a big part of that for me. Everything we do centers around food, and memories and traditions are made around the dinner table. It is a time to come together, discuss the day, and just spend time with our loved ones.
People live on through recipes as well. Recipes are passed on through generations, keeping them and the people they came from alive and well. I have recipes in my blog that are well over fifty years old, and passed down through four generations.
I really found that I love cooking because it is a way for me to be creative and express myself while making something useful at the same time. This has also started new traditions as well as honoring old ones.
Me Outside of Blogging
Outside of blogging, I am an avid sports fan. I often joke that I bleed green because I’m an Oregon Duck football fan. There is no better stadium to be in than Autzen on game day. I’m also a big basketball and baseball fan. Nathan and I spend a lot of our free time enjoying games, both in the stadium/arena, and at home.
I love hiking and being outside. Living in the Pacific Northwest means there is absolutely no shortage of stunningly beautiful areas to go hiking and enjoy the outdoors.
I’m a bargain hunter and love browsing thrift stores for inspiration or just great finds. It often feels like a treasure hunt, and you never know what you’ll find when you go. That is fun for me.
I also sew and crochet as a way to relax and still be creative. I love making blankets and dish cloths to use in the house. Those are my favorite things to make in the winter when I’m watching tv and relaxing.
